PCS Industries team attends the Essex Air Ambulance Bike Run

Despite the general hubub at PCS Industries HQ with preperations for the PPMA show, two of the team still found time to don their leathers and join the thousands of other bikers that took part in the Essex Air Ambulance charity bike ride yesterday.

MD of PCS Industries, Peter Jelf and Technical Services Engineer, Jason Connelley, rode from Dunton to Harwich to help raise funds for this vital life saving service which costs on average £250,000 a month to run.

The PPMA Show Countdown Continues

At PCS Industries HQ there is a buzz in the air as we look at our calender and realise that there is just over 6 weeks to go until the PPMA show.

This years visitors to our stand, D77, will be among the first to see the new systems from the PCS Inspector Series. These will include Cap Inspector, Label Inspector, Print Inspector and Code Inspector.

Followers of PCS will already know about the extremely susessful Cap Inspector, which has been installled on 13 lines over several Dairy Crest sites.

Due to continued growth, PCS is looking to expand it's team with the addition of a Software Development Engineer.

Candidates should have a good knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio programming languages.
Experience in Machine Vision, automation, robotics, PLC programming etc. would be an advantage though not essential as full training will be given.

The successful candidate will be responsible for feasibility testing of customer applications, software programming for projects as well as ongoing product development.

On the 11th December 2000, Peter Jelf created a company. Back then PCS was Packaging Control Solutions Ltd (a mouthful I know!). It's purpose was to offer packaging companies high quality integration services at competitive rates. Peter was aware that any vision project could fail or succeed based on the quality of the integration and so he set about creating a company that would become a long term partner for it's customers because of one simply philosophy; "mediocrity is unacceptable".

We are now 10 years on, and PCS has come a long way from Peter's spare bedroom. Over the past decade new product bases have been created and added, premises have changed and members of staff have come and gone. PCS has always remained true to it's founding principals, to offer it's customers it's very best, whether that be advice, products, installation or commissioning.

After 10 years of working in the packaging industry, PCS Industries has joined forces with the Process, Packaging and Machinery Association. The PPMA is the UK's trade association for suppliers of processing and packaging machinery to the UK market and represents over 350 members.

Over the past decade, PCS has witnessed, and been part of, some great changes within our market. We feel that now is the time to step forward and become a member of an association which is there to help stregthen and rebuild the UK's industy and manufacturing sectors that has been hard hit by the country's recent economic situation.

PCS Industries is also proud to be members of the UKIVA (UK Industrial Vision Association) and BARA (British Automation & Robot Association).

Is there no limit to what PCS Industries will do to make our customers lives easier? Our integration team took a well deserved break after driving the length of the country to help a customer keep their deadline this week. Their journey took them from our offices in Essex all the way to the Scottish border, with stops in Lincolnshire, Doncaster and Gretna. While on the road they installed a total of 10 Apsolute print heads with the minimium of downtime and disruption. The customer now has top quality, uniform print across all their manufacturing sites. Well done lads.

PCS Industries is pleased to announce the launch of the new DataMan 8000 series from Cognex. The DataMan 7500 has established itself as the market leader for direct part marked (DPM) code reading. The DataMan 8000 series builds on that pedigree by adding simpler options for communication, including Ethernet.

In addition to the new colour vision systems, there is a new release of In-Sight Explorer version 4.3 software. This release introduces two powerful new colour tools. Third generation Checker vision sensor

With Checker 3G, the user chooses whether to configure the sensor as a presence sensor or measurement sensor. Presence sensors verify that features are present. Measurement sensors verify that features are the correct height, width and/or diameter. In either mode, there is no limit to the number of part features that a single Checker can check. Checker is also able to detect and track over 6,000 parts per minute in varying positions along the production line, overcoming imprecise part positioning and delivering consistent, precisely timed pass/fall results. No other sensor, vision sensor, or vision system can do this.

The new Cognex offering does not require a PC for setup. Instead, the SensorView® Teach Pendant, with its unique One-Click Setup technology, allows the user to set up jobs right on the line and has them running in a matter of minutes. A single teach pendant can be used to set up any number of Checker 3G sensors and can remain connected for real-time application monitoring.

PCS launches Apsolute inkjet printer in the UK

The new thermal inkjet printer, apsolute, is the latest inkjet alternative to existing coding technologies. Thermal Inkjet Technology is well known as a clean and reliable printing method. It has been tried and tested for many years in conventional printing areas.
